"Makes me think of taxis."

Great if I was building an app for taxis, and not an app for golf.

Feedback from users (beyond the above), indicated that the UI did not align to their expectations for a golf app: the colours were generic, there was too much yellow, and the buttons/clickable areas were unclear.

Design is obviously something of a capability gap for me, so I needed a solution.

Claude has helped me to deliver a cross-platform app that is distributed via the App Store and Google Play, so could AI help deliver a better design.

What changed?

  • The logo is shades of white rather than black

  • The overall dark theme is forest green and off-white rather than yellow and charcoal

  • The clickable areas look like interactive, clickable areas

  • The most important element on screen has the most weight

  • White space around elements clearly groups related items and sections.

Rebranding workflow

I started with ChatGPT, which did a reasonable job modifying a screenshot of the homepage, but it felt incomplete.

I uploaded the original screenshot into Figma 'Make' and prompted the tool to deliver a golf-themed app. Figma produced a React Native prototype that formed the basis for the new layout.

I exported the new homepage as an image, uploaded it to my project, and asked Claude to implement the necessary changes based on the source image. Claude did a reasonable job but after a few attempts to get it to fix the partial successes I made the final design changes myself.

The workflow is too cumbersome and the implementation too incomplete to be repeated regularly; however rebranding exercises are, or probably should be, fairly irregular.
